Potterhead Malaysia: Fun Memories in Penang

It was such a treat spotting a Harry Potter pop-up cafe in Penang. A self-confessed Potterhead, I told myself I must have atleast a serving of butterbeer before leaving, and finally convinced my dad and Malaysian friends that we chill for a while.

Belonging to the Hufflepuff house, I donned in the classic yellow trimmed robe, while Saufi, Nur and Nana dressed in Slytherin, Gryfindor and Ravenclaw gowns. Growing up reading the Harry Potter books, I am truly happy that my friends were in with me on this.

Of course, I ordered a mug of butterbeer while everyone else ordered the bottled potions. The butterbeer tasted very much like butterball candy with a fizz, and the bottled potions were more like candied soda mixes. Very nostalgic of my childhood.

The quaint nook is full of HP memorabilia that a true Potterhead would appreciate. You can find little pieces like the Golden Snitch, and bigger emblems of the franchise like the Nimbus 2000, Harry’s cupboard room in the Dursley’s house and more.

Potterhead Malaysia is situated at 11, Lebuh Keng Kwee, George Town, 10100 George Town, Palau Pinang, Malaysia. They’re open every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00PM to 7:00PM and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00PM-7:30PM. Closed every Wednesdays.

Let me take this opportunity to write some short notes for my Malaysian friends who took the effort of driving to Penang and spending the weekend with me and my Dad during our visit. You guys made our visit more enjoyable.

To Nana, thank you so much for meeting up with my dad and I as much as you can when we were in KL and Penang. I learned so much about Malaysia and your beautiful religion in a short time, and am forever grateful.

Saufi , I know you are the busiest and appreciate it so much for making time for meeting us in Penang and driving us around. Thank you for being my Malaysian brother and always being that forward-looking person among the bunch.

And KD-mioni! I admire how sweet and thoughtful you are. From the little gifts, to the extra effort in bringing us to your favorite places. You showed us exemplary hospitality and our hearts are full. Thank you!

Can’t wait to see you guys visit my hometown. It’s going to be my turn to show you around my favorite spots and places. Miss you three and will forever cherish the fun memories we shared in Malaysia.
