There you were, sitting on my favorite spot,
A beautiful stranger having a cup of my favorite brew.
A familiar voice called out my name,
breaking the trance that was holding me frozen.
That friend’s invitation prefaced my initial tryst with you.
“Hey, are you up for another cup?”
Reads an SMS I received at around 7:30AM the next day.
“Yes please,” I replied giddily.
Still in bed, I hugged my pillow tight wearing a big smile on my face.
And that marked the start of the next chapter.
Countless dates over cups of coffee and milk tea,
First flings on sundry jaunts,
Trading stories – some somber, some happy.
That liking for each other finally ripened,
into something that we call LOVE.
Humdrum. Mundane. Monotonous.
Two years of familiarity has come to this.
Arguments. Conflicts. Scuffles.
Count in as tedious deals to the lethargy.
Accosting to a conclusion to this sojourn.
It started with an amusing work up to the summit.
Skying in at the peak, we reaped its rewards –
with views of awe-inspiring sunrises and moving sunsets.
Sadly, we are riding out on a slippery descent,
bringing us to the brink of a difficult decision.
Put an end to this and go our separate ways,
Or work it out and try another shot in ascending this mountain we dub as life.
Break up and eventually become outsiders from each others existence,
or stay and bring back the enamor outsets of the former years.
Culling an outcome to this memoir – of either staying as lovers, or as future strangers.
“Lovers, Strangers” is a poem I penned during the weekend jaunt with my friends at Mount Kan-irag/ Sirao Peak.
