A Long Weekend Vacation at Bluewaters Panglao, Bohol

A new scenery contributes to fresh perspective. It was the last week of November 2017 and beat with last quarter deadlines, wasn’t sure if I can still squeeze in a quick out-of-town thrill, yet I did.  I skittered on a fastcraft, wandered somewhere close so I still can manage to clinch up some tasks while on a break. So where’d I go? BOHOL!

Bohol is only a three-hour boat ride from Cebu City seaport, and what I had in mind for this trip was to laze and relax, but of course never missing the opportunity to enjoy the new attractions the island has to offer. We arrived at the Bohol Seaport past lunch time, and spotted our chauffeur holding up the Bluewaters Panglao sign, welcoming us right upfront the harbor’s waiting area.  The 45-minute ride to the resort seemed quick as our driver was amiably chatty, giving us updates about the island along the way.

Flying light, checked-in directly the moment we arrived so we can eat lunch the soonest. The moment I got in my room, the first thing I noticed was the TUB! I love tubs and bubble baths! And just across the beds, was a counter where the munch bar was and on the other end of it was a tray of fruits with calamay on a husk. That was a truly warm Boholano welcome treat!
The room design is minimalist with wooden furnitures and fixtures, accented with ethnic weave table and bed runners. Two blue watercolor paintings were pinned on one side of the light cream colored wall,  one positioned midst of each of the beds’ headboards breaking the warm wood and red motif.

Adobo Rice , Hinalang na Manok and Boholano Ube Kinampay drink are Apalaya’s bestsellers, and of course what I had for lunch that day. Adobo Rice is fried rice of chicken adobo flakes and sauce, served with pork adobong bisaya;  a Boholano specialty, Hinalang na Manok is made of chicken cooked in onion, ginger peppercorn, chili and coconut milk. And a personal favorite drink which can pass as a dessert as well, Boholano Ube Kinampay Drink is a rich concoction of halayang ube, coconut juice and tapioca. Aplaya means seaside in both tagalog and the bisaya vernacular, and is also the name of the resort’s food and beverage outlet serving delectable Filipino food alongside an international bill of fare.

The resort is intimate and private, the kind where one can lull in serenity and relaxation all day long.  I can imagine myself reading a book the entire afternoon on a hammock at the lush garden situated between the main wing and the restaurant with no distraction.

I am fond of swimming, both in pools and natural bodies of water. And Bluewaters Panglao would not disappoint a water wader like me for the resort has two pools – one in the middle of main wing and the other one is next to Aplaya Restaurant, plus a beach front for those who prefer to swim in saltwater.

My four-night vacation at Bluewaters Panglao was an easygoing long weekend retreat – a breather in the thick of current deadlines and the upcoming holiday due dates.  Two of those days were spent on experiencing Bohol’s newest attractions, which I’ll be blogging next.  Both tours were booked at the hotel’s concierge which was very convenient and totally hassle-free. The resort’s laid-back feel, the hospitality and warmness of its crew and the exquisite food were probably the best things that perked me up during the stay.
